The word ‘SARS’ often creates unnecessary anxiety for taxpayers. Taxpayers should however aim for tax compliance with SARS, ensuring all tax returns are submitted within the prescribed timeframe as well as ensuring that all tax liabilities are properly settled.

SARS has in recent years become far stricter in terms of compliance and consequently taxpayers are incurring a large range of administrative non-compliance penalties. In these instances, taxpayers should not follow the ‘ostrich approach’ and avoid facing the reality of the situation. Being tax compliant is a legal requirement for all taxpayers.
